Marist College Fashion show adds Technology

Hi!

As many of you know I am a fashion major and this past Friday the department held their annual fashion show. This was the first year in which technology played such a big role. There were QR codes all over campus throughout the semester showcasing the Fashion Speak icons. The department really loved these codes as us merchandising majors had to incorporate them into our capping project. The next thing that they did was have a life twitter feed for anybody who hash tagged about the fashion show. When they did it would come up on the big screen as the cocktail hour was going on. It was awesome.  This is what it looked like. Next thing that really touched my heart was an augmented reality app that the tech department set up for my beloved friend Eva Block who passed away in the fire. I could not get it to work as I have a lack of knowledge in this department, but if you did it correctly you got to see a video of her. The code was in the back of our lookbook.

These are only a few things that they did but you can see how even the Marist Fashion Department is beginning to incorporate technology.

Oh! and the show was absolutley AMAZING!

Fashion Augmented Reality

I remember during class professor mentioned an app where you took a picture of someone’s outfit and it would tell you where they purchased it. During the nice weather I have seen so many cute dresses and shoes that I loved I thought about this and how great of an idea it would be. We discusses augmented reality and I think this would be a great function to incorporate into it. In reality it would just take the store itself having an image of that piece of outfit online and through google maybe it could find it. It is very simple to the app Google Goggles. That app works pretty well so this does not seem like a far fetched idea!!

Wish I could create it!

Fashion Meets video games

As we went over video games in this class I took it upon myself to find a game that incorporated fashion. Upon my findings I stumbled upon a game called fashion story. It is a free app for the Iphone. The premise of this game is that you are a boutique owner and you have to sell clothes. Each level comes with a complete outfit and each item in the outfit takes minutes, hours, or days to sell. You have to keep going back and checking to replenish your store and gain your earnings. As you progress and gain money an experience you get to a higher level and unlock new outfits. As you gain levels you needs to expand your store and decorate it to your liking. The bigger your store the more racks and shelves you can buy.

All and all it is a fun little game to play between classes or commercials when you are bored!

Pinterest

I thought I would take a few moments to talk about Pinterest in my blog since this week we talked about social media. Pinterest is the latest app to hit smart phones that has become extremely popular, especially around Marist! Basically what it is is a giant pin board. Much like an inspiration board but it is digital. You can upload pictures or re-pin other’s pictures you find interesting. I think it has become so popular because there are so many different categories you can look at. One of the best things I like about it is finding awesome recipes to make .

This is a screen shot of my recipes page. As you can see there are many different recipes I have found interesting so I created a board and put them all there when I come across them. That is the basic concept. You find something and you either add it to Pinterest with the “pin it” button, which clips the picture from your browser and uploads it to your board, or you can just re-pin something you found that has already been uploaded to Pinterest. There are various other categories like fashion, art, home designs, DIY projects and so many more. If you are interested in tying  Pinterest for yourself I have linked the picture to the website so you just have to click it. The social media aspect comes in because you can follow your friends and see what they have pinned and re-pin them as well. The application will notify you each time your friends re-pin or like your pins. It is a great app especially for those who have an interest in the available categories.

As a fashion app I highly recommend it to those of you that follow trends and like to find inspiration in various forms of fashion. There are new posts every minute so there is always something new to look at. It really is inspirational whether it makes you want to tweak your own style or it gives great ideas to see various designs to get your creative juices flowing. If you have free time I think it is a good idea to try it out.

Dennis Basso Fashion Show

Finally got my pictures from the fashion show, but they did not come out as good as I had hoped! My uncle’s show was fantastic and full of amazing fashion trends. There were a lot of celebrities there including Vera Wang, Joan Rivers, Star Jones, and Kristen Cavallari. It’s always a fun part of going to the show to see what stars will be in the same crowd as me.

This is just a picture from the runway, but it is a picture I take every time I go because I’m proud to see my uncle’s name up there. Now to the fashion!

The show started out with the sound of a train hinting that we were going on a trip! His collection was filled with travel items such as python mini backpacks for those who want to be fashionable while traveling. He had many silk wraps and dresses lined with his trademark fur, but what blew the audiences mind was the coloring of the fur. This season was not just ordinary coloring fur; this season introduced orange fur. Image

My pictures did not come out as good as the professionals so I took this one from Style.com to show. The orange fur was mixed between different animals such as raccoon and lynx all died to this beautiful orange hue.

Of course I loved everything in the seasons collection, but I thought I would share my absolute favorite look.

This white jacket is made of lynx fur and I fell completely in love with it, if only I could afford it!

Attending fashion week was a great way to spend my Valentine’s day, but I think that the best part was actually meeting Kristen Cavillari.

Fashion week!

As most of you might already know it is fashion week in New York!! Most of my hours during this week is spent looking at all the designers newest looks, and I can say the same for most fashion students!! Technology is making it possible for those who cannot snag a seat at the shows to see them almost instantly. With websites like style.com and new york times style section, we can see the photos from the runways pretty quickly! There are even certain shows that let you view live.

I am lucky enough to have an Uncle who is a designer, who’s show I will be attending tomorrow! So my post for this week will be a follow up of the show and his trends!

Why fashion??

Hi! My name is Gabby and to start my blog off I thought I would share a little about myself and why I chose a blog about fashion.

I am a senior fashion merchandising major at Marist College. I knew fashion would be the career I wanted to go into at a very early age. My family has been linked with fashion for a very long time with the start of my great-grandmother and her extraordinary beading skills to my mother and her brief bridal company. Fashion is something that I have grown up with and I have even been lucky enough to have an uncle in the industry as my guide and mentor. As I will be graduating this year, I hope to work in the media end of fashion and this blog is my start to that exciting world!

I hope you all enjoy my blog!
